THE MARVELS Behind-The-Scenes Photos Reveal Major Change To Ms. Marvel’s Costume Was Cut From Movie

The Marvels may have failed to make much of an impact at the box office last year, but it received mostly positive reviews and has since found a lot of new fans since hitting Disney+ (leading many to criticise Disney for a lacklustre marketing campaign).

Captain Marvel herself, Brie Larson, has taken to Instagram today to share a new round of behind-the-scenes photos, one of which reveals another sequence/element which was cut.

As you can see by clicking through the Instagram gallery below, Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel was supposed to get a matching helmet with her new costume. We’re assuming this would allow Kamala Khan to travel through space; in the final cut, she remains aboard Dar-Benn’s ship while Captain Marvel and Photon travel outside, with the latter ultimately trapping herself in a different reality.

Zawe Ashton recently confirmed that, in an earlier cut of the sequel, Captain Marvel and Dar-Benn would have combusted in space together, suggesting there was at least some discussion about Carol Danvers dying in the movie.

That’s a bit of a head-scratcher, though we’d guess the hero somehow survived…perhaps she was the one meant to land in the X-Men Universe in place of Monica Rambeau!

Either way, it’s clear Marvel Studios made some major changes to The Marvels before its release. The same thing happened to Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumana, though, with the entire ending – featuring Scott Lang back on Earth and celebrating Cassie’s birthday – reshot literally weeks before the movie hit multiplexes.

Asked this past weekend about her future in the MCU, Larson simply responded with, “I don’t have anything to say about that.” That’s caused speculation about her future as Captain Marvel to go into overdrive.

Check out this new look at The Marvels below.

In The Marvels, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe.

When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as “The Marvels.”

The movie stars Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani, Samuel L. Jackson, Zawe Ashton and Park Seo-joon.

The Marvels is now streaming on Disney+.
